Viewing AVIRIS on-line Quicklooks

See the announcements page for info on the future of direct viewing of quicklooks.

For NCSA Mosaic and xv

To view the online quicklooks once you have them downloaded, you must load them into some display software. If you have xv (2.21 or later), then the command:

echo "P5 307 1536 255 " | cat - <filename> | xv -

will convert the file temporarily to PGM format and display it.

Similarly, you can view the files from your Web browser by properly configuring your .mailcap and .mime.types files. For NCSA Mosaic, add the following line to your .mailcap file (note that this is one line, even if your browser wraps it):

image/x-aviris; echo "P5 307 1536 255 " | cat - %s | xv -

and add the following line to your .mime.types file:

image/x-aviris aql

Then exit your browser and restart it. Now when you click on one of the .aql files it will treat the file in the same manner as a GIF image. You will need to set your browser to load to local disk to transfer the file as before.

Thanks to Quinn J. Hart at UC Davis for the conversion command.
